Responsibilities

(Duties may include, but are not limited to all or some of the following)

• Serve as “team owner” by managing the day-to-day copy responsibilities, both executional and supervisory in nature
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to create novel and original work in a variety of mediums—print, digital and beyond—for a variety of audiences, including both professional and patient
• Develop a refined understanding of the brand, category, and overall marketplace
• Mastery of the AMA Manual of Style; superior knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading symbols
• Possess strong creative presentation skills with ability to deliver a believable, inspiring, and persuasive approach to selling the “big idea” to team members and clients
• Demonstrate strong conceptual abilities and superior storytelling skills
• Possess knowledge of advertising business beyond healthcare; knowing what has been done in the industry and what constitutes a quality idea/campaign
• Partner with Art Supervisor to ensure copy direction and visual presentation work together to make the concept powerful, compelling, strategically sound, and aligned to the brief
• Oversee tone, style, structure, and voice of all content based on brand strategy, client expectation, and creative brief
• Actively participate in client strategic meetings, war games, market research, and work plan development
• Manage and mentor direct reports (Interns, Copywriters, Senior Copywriters) in their efforts to research, conceptualize, and write original content
• Easily juggle multiple client needs while inspiring and motivating both your creative teammates and your clients
• Coordinate resources (staff and freelance), ensuring all deliverables are met
• Provide/understand creative direction based on objectives and execute creative work effectively
• Communicate workload appropriately based on skill sets and talents; communicate well with others on workload issues and needs, the progress of work, and results
• Assist Group Copy Supervisor and/or Creative Director in the career development of the copy team; coach and develops direct report(s) by creating individual development plans and providing on-the-job learning
• Support and/or lead team or agency
• Exhibit expert understanding of trends in branding, marketing, advertising, and related communications industries
• Passionate about staying ahead of trends within the industry and translating them into proactive recommendations for assigned accounts
• Knowledge of advertising business beyond healthcare
• Expert understanding of pharmaceutical requirements/terminology and how that affects your teams work
• Successful relationship builder, both internally with the copy creative team you oversee and with your clients
• Engage team when opportunities to cultivate existing client business present themselves

Job Requirements

• Must have 4-6 years of experience in advertising industry
• At least 2 years of pharmaceutical copywriting experience is required
• Experience as a supervisor a plus
• Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in advertising, communications, or journalism, and/or coursework related to pharmaceutical advertising or life sciences is preferred (but not required)
• Portfolio containing work samples that demonstrate strong conceptual abilities, creative thinking, and exceptional writing skills
• Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to receive and assimilate critical feedback
• Ability to expertly think in abstract terms; can make connections between unrelated notions; can formulate innovative ideas where others cannot; seen as original and value-adding in brainstorming sessions
• Ability to multitask in a faced-paced environment while functioning as a member of a highly collaborative team
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Understanding of a strategically driven creative process
• Basic understanding of digital communications and media channels preferred
• Relentless energy, a sense of humor, and an open and curious mind
• Flawlessly direct the creative process, workflow, workload, and resources among copy group
• Interest in new technologies and emerging cultural trends
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
