Sr. Director, Rare Disease Marketing

In this role you will serve as the primary point of contact with all key internal and external stakeholders in developing and driving the commercial strategy for a Rare Disease product and future product candidates within the disease category, assessing and advising Senior Management on existing and potential markets, and create marketing and brand plans.

This position covers a broad range of marketing responsibilities including the execution of both the strategic and tactical activities associated with the market development and promotion the product. This includes development of the long-range strategic marketing plans as well as the creation and roll out of tactical plans tied to launch planning.


  • Establish and communicate the commercial brand vision and serve as the Brand Champion
  • Lead and develop a team of highly talented marketers, both home-office and field-based / customer-facing.
  • Cultivate and appropriately leverage strong external relationships such as thought leaders, key customers, and professional organizations.
  • Partner with Market Access and Medical Affairs teams to develop and leverage appropriate HEOR studies, pricing, value story, messages and materials to support payer and physician based access and reimbursement.
  • Define and drive product lifecycle development initiatives, working closely with cross-functional teams to implement.
  • Provide proactive commercial support and insight into new product launch planning.
  • Closely monitor competitive activities and develop and implement strategies to proactively overcome competitive threats.
  • Lead the evaluation of strategies to support market access and the long-term growth of the brand.
  • Establish critical commercial objectives and utilizes metrics to drive decision-making and measure success of marketing initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Medical, Regulatory, Legal and Clinical to coordinate commercial strategy.
  • Manage budgets and work closely with Finance to ensure alignment around business-planning processes and timelines.

Job Requirements

  • 15+ years biotech / pharmaceutical industry in commercial roles (i.e. Marketing, Sales, New Product Development)
  • 5+ years leadership experience, leading marketing teams and field-based teams, with P&L responsibility
  • Product launch experience, with ability to operate in a nimble entrepreneurial environment preferred
  • Rare Disease experience 
  • Emerging life sciences / start-up experience strongly preferred
  • Proven experience in a Marketing Leadership role, with a track record of driving financial results in highly competitive markets
  • Strong strategic planning experiences which include evaluation and sizing markets, segmentation of markets and customers, development of clinical and economic value propositions and designing of a winning customer model to achieve commercial objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically create and implement a multidimensional brand plan including branded and unbranded tools
  • To be successful you will also need to demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration, and the ability to set the vision and lead through change. Executive presence is a necessary attribute for success in the role as you will routinely present to and interact with the Executive Management team.
